St. Louis University High School – J-Wing HVAC

Murphy Company served as the Prime Contractor for the removal and replacement of the existing HVAC systems serving the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd floors of the J-Wing Building. The project included installing new ductwork, updated controls, and three new air handling units – one for each floor.

Since the 1st and 2nd floors are classrooms and the 3rd floor is office space, all work was carefully scheduled and completed during the summer months when school was not in session. The 1st floor work was finished in summer 2024, followed by the 2nd and 3rd floor work in summer 2025.

Equipment for the 2nd and 3rd floors was placed on the adjacent roof of the Chapel Building, which required modifications to the existing masonry exterior of the J-Wing to accommodate ductwork routing.

Murphy Company coordinated all subcontractors, including electrical, masonry, and drywall trades, and provided all resources necessary for controls, equipment startup, and test and balancing. Additionally, HVAC ductwork was prefabricated off-site and installed on-site, with the project reaching 90% completion.
