Murphy Company provided complete design-build engineering services for the installation of two cold climate heat pump variable refrigerant flow (VRF) systems. Our team efficiently completed the design and permitting of construction documents within just four weeks. Once permits were received, we moved directly into construction, completing the full system installation in an additional four weeks. This fast-tracked timeline highlighted our ability to deliver high-quality mechanical solutions under tight deadlines.
The scope included one 16-ton and one 8-ton VRF system, each equipped with outdoor units installed on grade near the building. A total of four indoor units were installed to serve the designated spaces, all connected through carefully routed refrigerant piping and necessary refrigeration accessories. The system design ensured efficient performance in cold climate conditions and delivered reliable comfort to the building occupants.
To meet the project’s aggressive schedule and budget goals, Murphy took a proactive approach by sourcing both VRF systems from a supplier with immediate equipment availability. We secured the units early in the design phase, allowing us to avoid common lead time challenges and maintain momentum as we moved from design into installation. This strategic procurement approach, combined with close coordination among our engineering, procurement, and field teams, played a critical role in keeping the project on track and within budget.
