Ameren – Rush Island Control Room Renovations

Murphy Company successfully delivered a critical infrastructure upgrade that included the installation of a chilled water CRAC unit on an elevated floor to provide efficient cooling for the 1,200-square-foot of server room equipment. By creating a low plenum for air circulation, the system ensured consistent temperature control in a mission-critical environment. The CRAC unit was integrated into the facility’s chilled water loop, and to maintain the highest level of security, ductwork was outfitted with reinforced security bars to prevent unauthorized access to the highly secured space.

Beyond the server room, Murphy Company executed significant mechanical and structural enhancements across the facility. The main structure was reinforced with supplemental steel to support the weight and operation of newly installed equipment. On the eighth-floor roof, four dry coolers were set in place to expand cooling capacity, while the fifth floor saw the installation of four air handling units and four pump skids, strategically positioned to optimize efficiency and system performance.

Comprehensive piping work was also completed, including new runs from the dry coolers to the air handling units. All piping was carefully insulated and pressure tested to guarantee durability, performance, and leak-free operation. Electrical upgrades were performed in parallel, with new circuits and breakers installed to support the added equipment and ensure reliable power distribution.

Throughout the project, Murphy Company leveraged its expertise in system integration and quality assurance. Each component was commissioned and tested to confirm operation in strict accordance with manufacturer design requirements. The result was a robust, secure, and energy-efficient mechanical system tailored to support the facility’s high-demand operational needs, while also providing long-term reliability and scalability for future growth.
