MURPHY COMPANY HONORED AS KEYSTONE FINALIST FOR WORK ON SAINT LOUIS ZOO POLAR BEAR EXHIBIT

ST. LOUIS – Murphy Company was honored Nov. 10, 2016 as a finalist in the AGC of Missouri’s 2016 Keystone

Awards competition for its work on the Saint Louis Zoo’s new polar bear exhibit. The project was recognized in the Specialty Contractor/Subcontractor Building Construction category for Projects under $5 Million.

The Saint Louis Zoo’s new 40,000-square-foot McDonnell Polar Bear Point brings visitors nose-to-nose with a swimming polar bear and offers new insights into the lives of polar bears and the Arctic people who rely on them. Murphy Company was responsible for one of the major areas dedicated to Animal Care and Protection of the Species – a state-of-the-art water filtering system, housed in a 3,032-sq. ft. Life Support Building adjacent to the Care Center (designed for breeding and care of up to five polar bears), where exhibit water is recirculated and treated, providing a salt water pool with a closed loop design to conserve water. The system is critical in the care and successful breeding of the bears, a goal for the Saint Louis Zoo to help ensure survival of the species.
