Construction Safety Excellence Awards (CSEA). In a notice from AGC, “the purpose of the Willis Tower Watson Construction Safety Excellence Awards (CSEA) is to recognize companies that excel in safety performance. CSEA closely examines each candidate’s commitment to safety and occupational health management and risk control.”
Unlike other safety award programs, the CSEAs look beyond the numbers and frequency rates and looks for examples of company management commitment, active employee participation, safety training, work site hazard identification and control, and safety program innovation.
After close consideration by the judges, Murphy Company was selected to be a finalist in the specialty division in the 2 million to 7 million work hours category for the CSEAs in January and was then given a little over a month to prepare a fifteen-minute presentation for final judging in early March. Murphy was represented by Rick Reams, Corporate Safety Director and Shannon Larrigan, Labor Coordinator, who touched on Murphy’s core values, safety culture, total worker health and approach to employee well-being, BBS programs, and leadership initiatives.
In the end, Murphy Company received 2nd place in this prestigious event. Rick Reams stated, “We did very well considering this was our first time. We were the new kids on the block, and we showed well to the judges as industry leaders.” Rick also accepted the award on Murphy’s behalf and is posed here with William “Bill” Creedon, North America Construction Industry, Willis Towers Watson and Dirk Elsperman, 2019 AGC President.
