Saint Louis University – Dormitory & Cafeteria

Murphy Company is responsible for all of the plumbing on this new, seven-level, 280-room dormitory and cafeteria building on the campus of Saint Louis University. Work began in April 2016 and will be completed in July 2017 for the opening of Fall 2017 classes.

The building has a total of 198 bathrooms, each containing a shower, toilet and two sinks. A Rinnai instantaneous water heating system, comprised of 16 units linked together in the lower level mechanical room, services the building, thus avoiding the need for a boiler. The gas-fired system, particularly useful during high-demand periods, produces 67 gallons per minute of hot water. Murphy installed the system and also fabricated all the water, sanitary waste, vent and storm piping for the building. Every wet wall was pre-fabricated in advance in Murphy’s Fab and delivered to the site for installation. Murphy also was responsible for all hook-up’s for water, dishwashers, sinks and other equipment for the large kitchen and cafeteria on the first-floor level.

Due to the large number of bathrooms and the number of crafts working in the building simultaneously, the project required careful sequencing and daily coordination with the other trades.
