St. Charles County Detention Center

Murphy Company provided design-assist mechanical and plumbing services for this critical, fast-tracked project focused on mitigating the spread of COVID-19 within an operational correctional facility. The scope included infrastructure upgrades to the existing inmate housing and the development of a new Central Booking and processing support area, designed specifically to accommodate pandemic protocols.

Key features of the project included the installation of specialized HVAC systems to support negative pressure environments within COVID-19 screening and holding rooms. These enhancements were essential to controlling airborne transmission and protecting both staff and detainees in a high-risk, enclosed setting.

Working under an aggressive schedule, the Murphy team mobilized immediately following the completion of final design and BIM coordination. Construction activities kicked off in September 2020 and reached substantial completion by December 2020—an impressive turnaround that ensured the facility qualified for time-sensitive Federal COVID-19 municipal response funding.

Our ability to respond quickly and work collaboratively with all stakeholders was instrumental in the project’s success. By leveraging our design-assist expertise and adhering to strict health and safety guidelines, we delivered a high-performance mechanical and plumbing solution that met urgent public health needs without compromising quality or functionality.
