Murphy Company’s scope of work for the Terumo BCT Sterilization Expansion project included all the process piping, plant utility piping, plumbing, and sheet metal for their facility located in Lakewood, CO. Due to the international travel ban implemented by the spread of COVID-19, Murphy became responsible for assembling the Danish manufactured, Lesni Catalytic-Oxidizer—a multi-million dollar piece of process equipment.
In order to assemble this process equipment successfully, Murphy was in constant communication with the manufacturer in Denmark. The Terumo BCT facility is fully operational 24/7 365 days a year sterilizing medical equipment and devices, so coordinating our work based on their schedule was the key to the successful completion of this project. Murphy was the right team for this project because we were able to fill in the gaps left by not having any sort of construction documents issued prior to construction.
Another important aspect of why Murphy was the right contractor for the project was our extensive knowledge of process systems. Our team did the design-assist on the systems which flowed the ethylene oxide through the process systems and were able to process system development without any process P&IDs issued at the start of construction. We also involved the owner in the development of the system and require the FDA and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment documentation.
Lastly, Murphy became the first third-party company ever to assemble a catalytic oxidizer!
