Murphy Company was tasked with a multifaceted project for the Meramec Sharks, involving an office renovation, ice rink installation, and an emergency ventilation system. The initiative required transforming an uninsulated, tilt-up warehouse into a year-round ice arena. Our innovative design-build team meticulously developed the building envelope, enhancing the conditions of the roof, walls, and glass to accommodate the new usage.
Key elements of our approach included designing an air distribution system that ensures even airflow across the arena without disturbing the space directly above the ice. This system was aesthetically integrated with the team’s colors to maintain visual coherence throughout the facility.
Additionally, our team sourced and installed a refurbished dehumidification system to achieve NHL-standard conditions for the youth hockey club. This system maintains a 96-degree dry bulb and a 78-degree wet bulb temperature, distributed evenly through carefully placed ducts. Opting for refurbished equipment yielded significant cost savings while ensuring efficient energy usage.
For the ancillary areas, including the concession stand, locker rooms, and offices, we designed and installed a tailored HVAC system that supports comfort and functionality across all public and private spaces.

- Ice Rink Climate Control: Implemented a specialized HVAC system designed to maintain precise NHL conditions, featuring a 95-degree dry bulb and a 78-degree wet bulb temperature setting. The system includes strategically placed ducts to ensure consistent airflow across the rink.
- Emergency Ventilation for Ice Rink: Installed an emergency ventilation system, activated by a carbon monoxide sensor, to safely manage exhaust from Zamboni operations, ensuring safety and compliance with health standards.
