Murphy Company was hired by McKinstry to do the plumbing, piping, and HVAC installation for this 80,000-square-foot elementary school. The school was built in 1950 which presented challenges for our team. The project was performed on a short timeline in order to be ready for the new school year.
Our team installed a new HHW system, two new boilers, 34 unit vents, 66 radiators, and converted galvanized domestic pipe to copper throughout the entire building. The team came up with innovative solutions in order to address the exposed pipe and small, dark, enclosed spaces.
We were able to prefabricate many of the materials in our Fabrication Shop and deliver them on-site at the school. This enabled us to prefabricate the piping in a controlled
environment and minimize errors on site. Being able to prefabricate a significant percentage of the work helped us stay on schedule even with the challenges we faced.
