Murphy Company was contracted by Hensel Phelps to assist with the expansion of a private client’s data center campus in Cheyenne, WY. Our team was tasked with the mechanical aspects, including the GTG piping, natural gas, HVAC piping and ductwork, AHU installation, and plumbing. The campus consists of 12 buildings.
Project highlights include:
- Air Handling Units (AHUs):
- Installation of 80 AHUs per building, each producing 53,000 CFM.
- A total of 160 AHUs across two buildings, providing a combined airflow of 8,480,000 CFM.
- AHUs were assembled on site, including the supply duct, return duct, and stairs, requiring 8 crane picks.
- Over 60 Murphy tradespeople worked on this project, contributing 2,350 hours weekly.
- Sanitary Piping and DWV:
- Covered over 4 miles.
- Copper Piping:
- 8 miles of copper piping above and below ground.
- Gas Turbine Generators (GTGs):
- Installed process piping for 20 Kawasaki GPS 3750-Z gas turbine generators (3 MW each), providing a total of 30 MW.
- HVAC and Plumbing:
- Murphy handled HVAC and plumbing for over 10 buildings on the campus.
- Commissioning Process:
- An intricate five-step commissioning process was conducted for every piece of equipment provided, as well as all owner-furnished equipment installed.
- The process involved collaboration among Murphy, Hensel Phelps, Jacobs, Siemens, a third-party commissioning agent, and the Owner’s Representatives.
Despite the project’s scale and complexity, Murphy Company successfully met all project requirements, ensuring a high-quality outcome for the client.
