Microsoft – Campus Expansion

Murphy Company was hired by Hensel Phelps to assist in the expansion of the existing Microsoft Data Center campus in Cheyenne, WY. Murphy Company is responsible for the mechanical aspects of this project, including but not limited to, GTG piping, natural gas, HVAC piping and ductwork, AHU setting, and plumbing. This campus is comprised of 12 buildings.

Two of the biggest projects of the Microsoft Campus Expansion project were the CYS-05 and CYS-06 projects. Some key points of this project are as follows:

  • We installed 80 AHUs that produce 53,000 CRM each per building. Total of 160 AHU’s in two buildings for a total of 8,480,000 CFM in CYS05 and 06.
  • AHU’s are assembled onsite including the supply duct, return duct, and stairs and require 8 crane picks. Murphy Company has over 60 tradespeople working on the project for 2,350 hours per week on CYS05 and 06.
  • Sanitary piping and DWV is estimated to cover 3.8 miles for CYS 05 and 06.
  • There is an estimated 8 miles of copper piping above and below ground for CYS05 and 06.
  • There are 20 Kawasaki GPS 3750-Z gas turbine generators (3MW each) that Murphy provided process piping for a total of 30 megawatts in CYS05.
  • Murphy Company did the HVAC and plumbing for over 10 buildings on this campus.
  • There was an intricate five-step commissioning process for every piece of equipment we provided as well as all owner-furnished equipment installed. The process involved Murphy, Hensel Phelps, Jacovs, Siemens, a third-party CX agen, and the owner’s reps.
