Project Sport – Chick-fil-A

To support its expanding supply chain, Chick-fil-A began developing Miniature Distribution Centers (MDCs) nationwide. Murphy Company was selected to design and install the refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, and controls for a new MDC in Olathe, KS. The facility includes office space, a conditioned warehouse, vehicle maintenance bay, cold dock, cooler, and freezer.

Murphy’s design team visited the site to assess existing conditions and coordinated with Chick-fil-A and Ryan Companies (GC) to develop tailored HVAC, plumbing, and refrigeration designs. To maintain the fast-track schedule, Murphy prefabricated a custom pump skid in our shop. This system circulates heated glycol beneath the freezer floor to prevent ice buildup and floor heaving.

Installation included all refrigeration, HVAC, and plumbing equipment, control devices, and piping. Murphy also integrated a custom control package with the building’s BAS, enabling remote monitoring and system optimization.

Completed on schedule in October 2023, Project Sport is now maintained by Murphy’s service team under an ongoing maintenance agreement.
