Murphy Company served as the refrigeration subcontractor on this project, working directly with Schnucks to install all refrigeration equipment provided by them. The overall construction schedule was set by Schnucks’ project management team, with Murphy contributing input on timing, milestones, and predecessor activities to keep refrigeration tasks aligned with the broader timeline.
A key challenge was safely removing two 28,000-pound mechanical houses from the roof in a very limited work area, which required careful planning and execution. This store also involved a more complex scope, as we replaced both the refrigeration cases and protocols. To ensure store operations remained uninterrupted, we had to plan around the existing equipment’s load capacity, keeping it running until the new systems were in place.
Prefabrication was utilized to improve efficiency on-site, though the percentage varied by component. Overall, the project required a high level of coordination, technical problem-solving, and precise scheduling to ensure a successful refrigeration system transition, technical knowledge, and scheduling discipline to meet Schnucks’ expectations while delivering a smooth refrigeration system transition.
